BART Executive Compensation

Comfortable Salaries & Healthy Bonuses Report

Recently, BART executives have asked all Bay Area residents, including BART employees, to sacrifice. We fully understand we are in the middle of the worst economic crisis in recent memory and BART employees, including AFSCME members, are prepared to do what it takes to pull through this crisis together.

We wholeheartedly agree with BART executives’ call for shared sacrifice, we’re just not sure those same executives are serious about sharing the sacrifice themselves.

One part of the budget that these executives are unlikely to touch is their own compensation. BART executives are among the best paid in the country and several enjoy wages, especially when coupled with bonuses (listed as “other” pay), that far exceed the median Bay Area income.

The top BART executives have a diverse set of job descriptions, but they all share the following traits: they are well compensated – all of them make over $100,000 seven of them took home more than $200,000 last year in salary and “other” pay – and, with the exception of BART spokesperson Linton Johnson, they all remain largely shielded from the public’s eye.
